A simple guide for getting a downloaded game ready to launch on Windows.

Steps for Running a Game

Important: Before downloading a game, make sure your computer meets its minimum system requirements.

1. Finish the download and extract the game

Wait until the download is complete, then extract the archive to a folder you can easily locate. Do not try to launch a game directly from inside a ZIP or RAR archive.

2. Check Windows Security

If Windows Security or another antivirus program quarantines a file, review its protection history and see what was flagged. Only restore or allow files when you understand them and trust their source.

3. Make sure required components are available

Some games need components such as Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables or DirectX. If a game includes installers for required components, run them as appropriate and restart Windows if requested.

4. Keep your graphics drivers updated

Check for current drivers using the official software from your graphics-card manufacturer. Updated drivers can help prevent launch and compatibility problems.

5. Start the game

Open the extracted folder and launch the game's main executable. If it does not start, review the FAQ or contact SteamHub support.

Windows Defender note: Antivirus exclusions reduce protection. Never exclude a file or folder that you do not trust. If you choose to create an exclusion for a trusted game folder, understand the security trade-off first.

Common troubleshooting

Confirm the download and extraction completed without errors.
For a missing DLL message, check required runtime components and whether security software removed a needed file.
If the game crashes immediately, update your graphics drivers and compare your hardware with the game's requirements.
